Passkeys

Keeping your accounts secure is essential to protect your personal and business information. Modern security tools like passkeys and authenticator apps provide strong protection against phishing, credential theft, and unauthorized access

What are passkeys?

Passkeys are a modern, phishing-resistant alternative to passwords. They use public-key cryptography to authenticate users without needing to remember or type anything.

How passkeys work:

  • Your device generates a key pair: a public key (stored by the service) and a private key (stored securely on your device).
  • During login, the service sends a challenge that your device signs using the private key.
  • The signed challenge is verified using the public key—no password required. Benefits:
  • Resistant to phishing and credential stuffing.
  • No need to remember complex passwords.
  • Can be synced across devices (e.g., via iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager).

How to set up passkeys

Prerequisites:
  • A device that supports passkeys.
  • A browser or app that supports passkey login (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Edge).
From Login:
  • Enter your account email and password and select Continue.
  • Toggle the Passkey Setup option on.

Note: If this option is unavailable, your account already has a passkey configured. See “From My Account” to manage or add passkeys.

  • Click Continue.
  • Verify your account using Email or Phone.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to set up a passkey for your account.

From My Account:
  • Log in to ESS.
  • Select the Avatar from the global header.
  • Select Manage account from the Avatar menu.
  • On the My Account page, locate the section labeled “Passkey Login.”
  • Select Edit next to the passkey section.
  • On the passkey edit page, select +Add Passkey to add a passkey using your device options. Tip: Each device can have its own passkey on the account.
